The first two weeks are the best time to capture your new arrival for a posed style as they are at their most sleepy and curled whilst being blissfully unaware.  Posed sessions are great at photographing baby all curled up sleeping on their fronts or sides and in various poses with Mum and Dad.  At all times I follow baby’s lead to pause for feeds, changes and those all important cuddles.

I recommend booking your due date to ensure I am available just before and after this time to capture your newborn.  Booking once baby arrives is sometimes possible too and last minute shoots are not a problem.  If your baby is older than two weeks you are certainly not too late. Baby may not be as sleepy so a different style of photography is required that will still highlight the connection and details of your new arrival in the most beautiful way.

I will come to your home for the shoot equipped with a selection of my props.  I have a large and ever growing variety of blankets, wraps, headbands and cute little hats as well as posing bean bags and little baskets.  All props are cleaned after use and the prop selection is tailored to your preferences given on the booking form questionnaire.  Sometimes parents’ hands are brought into a shot to show the scale of how tiny your baby is.  This is also a good tool to help sooth your baby with parents’ warm hands around them.  Siblings are also encouraged to be involved in a posed shoot and often this is done at the beginning so they are free to relax and play.  It can be helpful to have an extra pair of hands during the shoot to take care of siblings so that Mum and Dad are free to be in a few photos with baby.

With posed shoots the main focus is on the baby but time is always set aside to capture you with your newborn and as a family with other siblings. I am well aware of how self conscious ladies are when they have just given birth so I aim to show Mum in complementary poses with baby, often looking at them to show the connection.
